As part of the Scottish FA’s £15m Performance Strategy, seven schools throughout the country were selected in 2012 to house the cream of Scotland’s talented young footballers. Hazlehead Academy was one of those chosen to educate dozens of young players.
Photos of each of the SFA squads at the start of their Hazlehead Academy journey can be seen below:
Pupils at Hazlehead must combine footballing education with their normal curriculum as part of the Scottish FA’s commitment to elite player development.
Seven coaches have been appointed to work in conjunction with the schools and the players’ clubs to enhance their technical skills at a key stage of their development. Stuart Glennie has been selected to coach the elite groups here at Hazlehead Academy with help from AFC coaches Mark Emslie and Neil Simpson to deal with the busy workload.
The programme is a 4 year programme in total for the players and the experience they gain from being involved in this sets them up very well for their future careers wherever, and whatever, that may be.
