Accelerated Reader Awards 2018

This month has seen two assemblies celebrating the achievements of our S1 and S2 pupils in their reading development.

Hazlehead Academy uses a reading programme called Accelerated Reader to measure, support and develop our S1 and S2 pupils’ reading and understanding skills. During the year pupils are assessed each term, giving them a reading level and then they read books at that level. They can then take a quiz on the book to test their understanding and, if they pass, can move up through the levels. It is a simple system that gives a structure to reading periods and encourages them to read more and improve their skills.

115 S1 pupils had improved their reading skills this year, adding a total of 128 years to their reading ages. For S2, 127 of them had improved and added 168 years to their reading ages.

Now they are at the end of their academic year we held assemblies to celebrate their successes and award those who had made significant achievements in their reading. Videos of their progress through the year were shown and certificates and Cineworld vouchers were awarded to the following pupils:
