Maths in the pipeline

On Wednesday 29th of November six S3 pupils attended Maths in the Pipeline at the Holiday Inn in Westhill delivered by Techfest. Pupils undertook a variety of activities such as ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’ where they had to estimate the volume of oil under a subsurface contour map, ‘The Highs and Lows of Forecasting’ where they had to do a time series analysis of UK gas production. Students then spent the afternoon in various groups doing a business challenge which they had to present in front of their peers, teachers and a panel of judges who work in industry. All pupils participated well and an extra special well done to Verity Carlyle and Jason Boyd who were in the winning group for the presentations!
