Speakers’ Corner in the Library

Each month the library offers pupils a chance to speak on a topic of their choice to an audience and so far we have held three fantastic talks. Minecraft by S1 pupil Hadyn Newlands was informative and entertaining with a lot of interaction from the audience which Haydn handled like a professional. S6 pupils Bethan Dale and Eleanor Doherty spoke clearly and from the heart about Gender and Sexuality, which brought in a large audience including a bus full of pupils from Ellon Academy. Last week Rhiannon Walker of S5 gave a well researched and articulate talk on Veganism called Edgy Veggie which was well attended and prompted many thoughtful questions from the audience.

This is a brilliant platform for young people to practice their presentation, public speaking and research skills with an audience of their peers and staff. We are looking forward to our next event on Thursday 16th March at 12.30 in the library when S1 boys Gary Robertson and Calum Stewart will be speaking about cars.
