Seeing the Extra in Ordinary – Celebrating Success

This past week has given us a chance to celebrate success in a variety of ways at Hazlehead Academy.  Through all of these opportunities, we have seen ordinary people doing extraordinary things…

Senior Prefect Team

On Monday 6th June, Dr Drysdale and I had the opportunity to interview eleven fantastic candidates for the Senior Prefect Team.  Students presented on how they would take forward our new Core Values to make them a meaningful and everyday part of school life, asked them about challenges they had overcome and also sought to find out what they saw as the key ingredients of an effective leader.  Views were sought from staff, fellow students and the partners who supported the S6 induction.

Out of this process, the following candidates were selected…

Head Girl & Boy: Emily Buchan & Rushdy Shiham

Depute Head Girls: Tia McBain & Alysha Herd

Depute Head Boys: Andrew Confield & Niril George

Well done to all!

Awards Ceremony

On Tuesday 7th June, guests, parents, students and staff joined together to celebrate some of the successes of the past year at Hazlehead Academy.  The scope and scale of these successes demonstrated the point that, whether staff or student, ordinary people have joined together to do extraordinary things, both in through supporting and achieving success.  It was also recognised that we simply can’t recognise all examples of success in the school through awards, trophies or certificates.  So, whether you have received a trophy, or a ‘well done’ from a member of staff, been presented with a certificate or received a positive mention on a report card, you should be rightly proud of your achievements.

Colours Ceremony

Wednesday 8th June saw an opportunity for Hazlehead Academy to continue the tradition of celebrating commitment and success in a very visual way through the awarding of Colours.

S6 Formal

The week was rounded off with a great celebration at the S6 Formal – Norwood House Hotel on Friday 10th June.  What a fitting way to mark the end of an era for what has been a fantastic year for this year group.
