On Friday 27th March, 6 members of our STEM club represented Hazlehead Academy at the ‘Celebration of Engineering and Science’, organised by the Young Engineers and Science Clubs Scotland, sponsored by BP and Shell. There were many schools present from all over Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. The purpose of the day was to celebrate all of the projects carried out by school STEM clubs, compete for prizes and find out about careers in engineering and science.
We won the overall trophy for the Watt’s Watt Challenge! We had to prepare several challenges in advance during our weekly lunchtime STEM club, organised by Mrs Shaikh. We had to build an electric train, steam boat, apple-powered battery and prepared a poster about James Watt. Our prizes included a cool trophy, a cheque for £100 and invitations to Glasgow Science Centre.
